Weekend Out & About

2009 is here! Thanks guys for all sincere greetings and wishes! *big hugs*

My family and I spent New Year's Eve gathering at my oldest uncle's residence, playing horn-blowing games, saying prayers and tossing champagne. It was quite fun. I realized that some of you -my faithful readers- may not have a fun celebration due to unexpected circumstances like Mumbai Attack. I need to extend my deepest condolences.

My New Year's celebration wasn't all fun either. A call made the smiling faces faded away. My granny's youngest brother, Foe Yoen Kien, passed away at the age 56 on January 1, 2009 around 2 AM. May he rest in peace.

Anyways, how are you guys doing?

I decided to go for a movie with Rica yesterday. As I mentioned on my Facebook status, I watched AUSTRALIA at fX Lifestyle X'nter, Jakarta. The 165-minute film starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman already possess bad reviews but hey, the tickets were sold out both in fX (I took the next show) and Plaza Senayan.

The movie was pretty good according to Rica and I, even though it wasn't Kidman's best performance I believe. 

If you love war-based movies like Windtalkers or Saving Private Ryan, you may not like this movie. War scenes were not displayed in details, more like small parts of the entire movie. I hate to agree with all critics saying that the movie is too long and too cliché, but it's soo true. Not to forget the chemistry between Kidman and Jackman wasn't built properly and seemed not strong enough (read: too fast). Nonetheless, I adore Kidman too much I can never hate her for this movie.

Moreover, I'd like to comment about the fX movie studios.

I'll tell you the truth. My IDR 15,000 (weekdays rate) is worth a small studio with hot temperature. I was wondering whether they turned on the air-con during the show. I was also questioning about the seating arrangement of the studio. Why would they give more space between A and B seats? That was really weird.
